What if we decided to change the way corporations are run? Think about it. What are we doing on a daily basis and how we are doing it are often analysed as processes and systems. What if we looked at the bigger picture of what is being done and how? What if by doing this we discover that in fact, everything we have been doing and the way we go about it is completely unnatural.
I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be rules and guidelines for processes and systems. However, when these tools take over the human element, when processes are made to force something natural to be unnatural, what good are we doing in the long run? Why not use what we are predisposed to do naturally and build on this? After all, companies are formed by people – from the janitor to the CEO. So how do we integrate a natural state of being into a structure and a hierarchy that we have been taught to follow since the beginning of time?
When there are too many guidelines, rules and policies layered one on top of another, there is less and less room for self, for originality and for creativity. We constantly fear bad behavior, non-compliance and focus on mistakes. We use fear to mobilize. As a result, people compete, become more territorial, use ego to be heard or lose the sound of their voice.
So now I have a mission. Let’s undo what has been done. Let’s work together to reverse the status quo which is unnatural and an inhibitor for growth and self realization. Let’s use hope as a mobilizing factor to bring people together to share ideas and knowledge. Humans have been made to help one another, care for each other, live communally and democratically. If people understood the inner power they have to stand up for what is right, to let go of the walls built by disappointment and to feel happiness more frequently than it being the exception to the rule, imagine how society would change in no time. What inner power is this? It’s the one where you walk through a mine field without an worry to save your fellow soldier because you know when you do what is right, you will be protected regardless of extraneous circumstances out of your control. I can only be responsible for myself, my behavior, my actions and reactions, the same way you can only be responsible for yours. The rest is perception and a throw of dice.
You might completely disagree with all that I am saying. You are entitled to do so. I leave you however with this thought: if I remove your title, your money, your status, any form of influence you might have, your belongings and your lifestyle, can you tell me who you are? You don’t need to panic if you don’t have the answer just yet. The fact that you’re thinking about is already a very good head start. Let’s start living and stop existing. It’s time for us to be humans again.
